Change of plea hearing set in Provo arson case

SALT LAKE CITY — A Provo woman accused of starting an apartment fire that killed two people and injured a third is expected to enter a plea to reduced charges.

Yvette Kimber is scheduled for a change of plea hearing Wednesday in Provo's 3rd District Court.

In July, Utah County prosecutors offered the 45-year-old a deal and 30 days to make her decision. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

If Kimber refuses, she'll stand trial on two counts of first-degree felony murder and one count each of second-degree felony aggravated arson and aggravated assault.

If convicted, Kimber could face life in prison.

The March 14 blaze at the Boulders Apartments killed Karen Murray and Catherine Crane.

Kimber's defense attorney, Tom Means, could not be reached in advance of Wednesday's hearing.
