Dickey's Barbecue coming to Ogden, Layton

OGDEN -- Dickey's Barbecue Pit will open restaurants in three more Utah locations -- Ogden, Layton and Logan.

Steve Griffin will be owner-operator of the franchises.

Griffin described the restaurants as "great, affordable barbecue" with family-friendly atmosphere.

Dickey's Barbecue Pit opened in Texas in 1941 and began franchising in 1994. The restaurants feature pit-smoked meats, complimentary ice cream and big yellow cups, according to a company press release.

"The business model allows the restaurant to build outside of traditional quick serve restaurants with catering opportunities and the Big Yellow Cup Club," Griffin said in the press release.

The company has opened 35 stores since the start of 2011 and expects to reach 200 locations before the end of the year. There are currently 163 locations in 38 states.

Other Utah locations for Dickey's are American Fork, Orem, St. George and West Valley. Stores are also planned for Draper and Salt Lake City.
