Suspected street racer dies in Utah crash

WEST VALLEY CITY — Police in West Valley City say a 22-year-old man was killed when he lost control of his car and crashed into a coffee shop. The accident happened around 2 a.m. Saturday, after police received a call about a group of people street racing.

Police Lt. Mike Coleman says several vehicles fled when officers arrived. One vehicle clipped another car, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a Starbucks coffee shop.

Coleman says 22-year-old Carlos Gomez was ejected from the vehicle and killed. A passenger in the same car sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released.

Police say Gomez was traveling 50 to 60 mph when he crashed.
