OGDEN -- Part of the spire that was on the Ogden Temple was on the ground Monday after construction workers removed it from the building.
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officials haven't said when the Angel Moroni will be returned to the top of the temple, 350 22nd St.
Workers will reshape the temple's entire exterior with new stone and art glass. A new entrance to the temple will face to the east and will be visible from Washington Boulevard. Those attending the temple for baptisms will enter through the existing entrance, church officials have said.
Inside, workers will reconfigure some rooms, but the core building design will remain the same, church officials have said. Old electrical, heating and plumbing systems will be replaced with modern, energy-saving equipment.
Other notable improvements include underground parking and a complete relandscaping of the temple block with a major water feature.
Renovation is anticipated to be completed in 2013.
