Plant donates $5K to food bank

OGDEN -- Westinghouse's Western Zirconium Plant has donated $5,000 to the Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank.

The donation was prompted by a story Sunday in the Standard-Examiner detailing the struggle the food bank has experienced this summer, the company said.

Plant manager Glenn Galer said in a news release, "While we normally do a holiday drive, after Sunday's article we had several employees suggest that we do something now. We still anticipate having our annual holiday drive, but we wanted to make sure that the food bank had the means to provide for the community now."

Catholic Community Services Director Marcie Valdez said the food bank is grateful for the response from Westinghouse and the entire community.
