Syracuse mayor: City sought service partners

SYRACUSE -- Mayor Jamie Nagle says city officials have actively sought opportunities to partner with neighbors to provide services and potentially reduce costs.

During a recent hearing, Nagle said they have talked to neighboring communities about combining services, including police and fire, but have found little response.

"It's gone nowhere," Nagle said of those talks.

She has mentioned several times city officials have talked about possibly merging fire services with North Davis Fire District, which consists of the cities of Clearfield and West Point, but outstanding bonds on the fire department complicate the matter.

Syracuse was one of five north Davis cities involved in a study about potentially merging fire services more than seven years ago, but city officials at that time did not pursue the merger.
