OGDEN -- Jacob James Newberry, of Tallahassee, Fla., has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for study and research in Israel from 2011 to 2012. He is the son of Mary Theresa Newberry of Gulfport, Miss., and Dr. Thomas B. Newberry of Fayetteville, Ark.
Dr. Newberry was born and raised in the Ogden area and graduated from Weber High School. He is a board-certified psychiatrist who practices at the Fayetteville, Ark., Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Jacob Newberry attends Florida State University pursuing a doctorate in creative writing. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi with bachelors degrees in music and English, and was a Phi Beta Kappa honoree. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi with a Masters Degree in French Language and Literature. He was previously awarded the University Fellowship, Florida State University's highest graduate honor.
Newberry will live in Jerusalem during his fellowship in Israel. His Fulbright project will explore pilgramages to Israel by Christians from the southern United States.
