OGDEN -- A free community Hope Festival sponsored by the Hope Resurrected Church is planned for Friday evening in the Building God's Way building parking lot at 2909 Washington Blvd.
While a host of activities are planned for the event by area church youth groups, the 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. event is open to anyone of any age.
"We want it to be like the Ogden Street Festival used to be," said Hope Resurrected Pastor Fred Lopez. "What we are seeing is that we can grow this over the years to where we can do something similar on a larger scale to reach our community."
Lopez said there is plenty of room at the location to host a large party.
"We will be able to fit a lot of people and there will be a lot of places to park for overflow," he said.
The parking lot party will include free dinner for the first 500 participants, games for children, a bounce house, a three-on-three basketball tournament, a graffiti board, face painting and dramas and skits.
But there also will be a Christian element to the event. Community Outreach teams will minister and pray with people at the event. Bands from area churches will perform.
There also will be teams of representatives from the various churches who will minister to people in the community beforehand, inviting them to attend.
"It's bringing hope back to our community," said Youth Pastor Dave McCurry.
Among the churches that have committed to participate Hope Resurrected are Christian Assembly, Cristo Rompe las Cadenas and C.L.U.B.B. Jesus.
"As more and more churches get involved, they have more and more ideas of what they want to do," Lopez said. "It just keeps snowballing."
The vision of the event is to develop relationships between local churches, give churches more visibility and to bring people to Christ.
"We want to get all the local churches together for this cause," Lopez said.
