MANILA -- Jared Ropelato, the 12-year old Boy Scout who went missing Friday on a hike in Daggett County, was found by searchers at 8:45 a.m. today.
Karen Peterson, spokeswoman for the Daggett County Sheriff's Department, said the boy was in good health after spending 20 hours in the woods. He was found near the Long's Park area, about four miles from where he was last seen.
"He's in good health. He was brought down to our command center and the EMTs checked him out."
Peterson said about 200 volunteers in addition to official searchers were combing the woods where the scout went missing Friday afternoon.
Temperatures dipped to the mid-40s overnight, she said, and Jared "did build himself a lean-to," a crude structure of branches and sticks that Boy Scout manuals advise scouts to build for shelter if they are lost in the woods.
"He did very good," she said.
Ropelato is the son of Dawn Ropelato, Hooper. His scout troop was on a hike to Daggett Lake and disappeared about noon on Friday.
