Police: Man stole to pay for Lagoon

FARMINGTON -- An 18-year-old Centerville man planned to use the money from multiple burglaries to go to Lagoon. Instead he's gone to jail, police said.

Michael Franklin Whitney was charged in 2nd District Court with one third-degree felony burglary; six counts of vehicle burglary, class A misdemeanors; and six counts of theft, class B misdemeanors.

Whitney was arrested and booked in Davis County Jail on Tuesday by Centerville police following an investigation earlier this month.

Centerville Police Detective Allen Ackerson said Whitney had pawned TVs and tools that were stolen. Ackerson said the thefts occurred between 11:30 p.m. Aug. 3 and 1:30 a.m. Aug. 4, Items were taken out of unlocked cars and a storage shed that was locked.

Whitney told police others were involved, and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, Ackerson said.
