Prep football: Trio of schools vie for Bountiful-area supremacy

WOODS CROSS -- A pair of teams looking to battle back into the state football playoff scene will square off tonight in the season-opening endowment games.

Viewmont will travel a few miles to Woods Cross, which starts the Nick Longshore era tonight. The Vikings have left the brutal Region 1 for Region 2, which includes West and Hunter. But Brad Lloyd's squad returns 18 starters, including QB Josh Staples.

The Wildcats went through a pair of coaching changes, and Nick Longshore now takes the reigns. Woods Cross will battle Davis County rivals Bountiful and Clearfield as well as defending 4-A champion Highland.

Woods Cross is led by quarterback Skyler Farns and defensive end Filipo Mokofisi.

The Braves might be hard-pressed to repeat their 2010 success, but never count Bountiful coach Larry Wall out of the playoff picture.

Cam Zollinger will QB the Braves, who return nine starters.
