Layton man arrested on charges of sexual assault of a minor

LAYTON — A Layton man has been arrested and booked into the Davis County Jail on 17 felony charges of sexual assault of a minor.

Daniel John Moran, 48, was arrested by police without incident Wednesday evening. Moran was booked into the jail in Farmington, Layton Police Lt. Garrett Atkin said.

Initial charges range from first-degree to third-degree felonies relating to sexual assault, which occurred over a several year period, Atkin said.

Atkin said Moran was arrested by police after he was contacted and asked to come into the station for an interview.

Based on the allegations, and the discussion that took place in that interview, there was enough probable cause to make the arrest, Atkin said.

“(Moran) was taken into custody after the interview,” he said.

As of Thursday morning, Moran had yet to make his initial appearance in 2nd District Court in Farmington.

Moran is being held on a $200,000 bail, according to jail records.

Police were made aware of the offenses as a result of investigating an unrelated crime that occurred on Tuesday.
