FRUIT HEIGHTS -- Police are reporting the condition of a 15-year-old boy from Fruit Heights who was accidentally shot in the head Saturday as improving.
Davis County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Harper said the family had reported that the boy was responding to voices of family members and health care providers Sunday.
On Saturday night, he was listed in very critical condition.
Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. Susan Poulsen reported the 4:50 p.m. Saturday accident occurred when the boy, who was not identified, was shooting a .45 caliber handgun at the Wasatch Shooters Association Public Shooting Range.
She said he went to sit down on a swinging seat but fell. She said the gun discharged and the bullet struck him in the head.
37 arrests made in DUI effort
Utah Highway Patrol troopers from Davis and Weber counties and the UHP DUI Squad participated in a special DUI enforcement effort Saturday night in Davis County.
A UHP news release states that 24 DUI arrests and 13 arrests for other reasons were made during the event.
The document offers a thank you to the 11 designated drivers who were contacted during the event.
There were 181 total vehicles stopped.
