ReNon Zabriskie loses battle with cancer

OGDEN -- ReNon Fisher Zabriskie died Friday after a battle with cancer.

Zabriskie, 63, was a former teacher and the wife of Ogden School District Superintendent Noel R. Zabriskie, who resigned last week to help his wife through the final stages of her disease.

"She was a remarkable woman who went about quietly loving people and doing good," Noel Zabriskie said.

Ralph Aardema, Ogden, was a family friend of 45 years.

"ReNon had impeccable integrity, and she believed in principles she lived by and never wavered from," said Aardema, 67, and North Ogden Elementary School principal until his recent retirement. "She was an outstanding, trustworthy, loyal friend and community member. She was an excellent teacher and committed to serving others without any thought of return."

ReNon Zabriskie was raised in Bountiful and Provo, and in 1966 earned a Brigham Young University bachelor's degree in math and home economics. She danced four years as a member of BYU's International Folk Dancers.

Zabriskie taught school in Provo and briefly in Ogden. Zabriskie gave piano lessons and taught folk dance in area elementary schools for years.

Donna Corby, of the Ogden School District, said Zabriskie was warm and welcoming.

"ReNon Zabriskie was one of the kindest people I have ever met, putting the needs of everyone else before her own," Corby said. "She was very gracious, and extremely supportive of her husband and family. She never met a stranger, welcomed all into her home."

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Zabriskie served as president of her stake and ward Relief Society groups, and of her ward Primary. She was the mother of five and grandmother of 11.

Her funeral is at 11 a.m. today at the Mount Ogden Ward Chapel, 1314 27th St., Ogden. Interment is at Ogden City Cemetery.
