Special session set to finalize Utah redistricting

SALT LAKE CITY -- Gov. Gary Herbert has set the date for lawmakers to finalize new election maps for the state.

Herbert says the Legislature will meet in a special session at the state Capitol Oct. 3.

Herbert says he will evaluate the map approved by lawmakers for fairness before signing off on it.

The Redistricting Committee has held multiple public hearings around the state and is currently deciding on a final proposal to forward to the full Legislature.

The new redistricting maps will define the boundaries for congressional, legislative and state school board districts until the next Census.

This year, legislators are drawing boundaries for four congressional districts instead of the current three because of Utah's population growth.
