KAYSVILLE -- It was an odd sight Thursday night to see the lights normally reserved for Friday in full bloom during the highly anticipated matchup between Davis and Lone Peak.
A few big plays were all the difference as Lone Peak walked away with a solid 21-10 victory in a battle of unbeaten teams.
"I thought that the kids did everything that we asked them to defensively and it was the best defensive game we've had since I've been here," Davis defensive coordinator Tyler Gladwell said. "Against a good team like Lone Peak, you need to settle into game plan and the plan we had in place was pretty good tonight."
The Knights moved the ball down the field early to get in scoring position on the opening drive, but kicker Trevor Robb missed the first of two short field goals wide left and the Darts were in business.
However, it was the Lone Peak defense that shut down Davis early and often, holding the Darts to just 48 offensive yards in the first half.
Davis' lone first-half score was a 27-yard field goal from Chance Parker after a nice punt return from Colby Child set up the kick. Just minutes before the half, the Knights struck pay dirt when Hansen found Zac Saunders on a 68-yard TD to deflate Davis heading into the locker room.
Lone Peak scored again in the third quarter when Hansen found Saunders from four yards out to make the score 14-3. Davis finally put together a drive, which ended with a one-yard TD plunge from quarterback Tyson Denney to get back within four and just over 11 minutes remaining.
Four Davis penalties in the second half extended drives for the Knights and put the game away. After a late interception, Hansen sealed the deal with a 19-yard scoring strike to Connor Humphrey.
