Utah man sentenced for massive fraud

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah man who pleaded guilty to fraud after being extradited from Africa will serve three consecutive sentences of one to 15 years in state prison.

Trent Wall was sentenced Friday in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court.

The 51-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree fraud in July and pleaded guilty to a third charge Friday. He faces two other felony charges in Summit and Emery counties.

Prosecutors say Wall defrauded numerous people of more than $5 million through the sales of heavy equipment, including one Japanese victim who lost more than $1 million.

Defense attorney Greg Skordas says Wall was captured after a sting operation last year in Africa, where he was trying to find the money to pay his debts.
