SALT LAKE CITY — A group of business owners from Utah's gay community is setting up a fund to provide reward money for information that leads to arrests in hate-motivated crimes against gays.
Q Business Alliance leaders say the fund is in response to a pair of assaults on gay men outside a downtown Salt Lake City nightclub last month.
Alliance membership director Michael Sanders says the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender business community wants to send a message that violence won't be tolerated.
He says donations for the fund are being accepted from any private citizen, business or organization.
Salt Lake City police continue to investigate the Aug. 26 attacks.
The assaults have not been classified as hate crimes, although one victim reported hearing a gay slur before being attacked.
