ROY -- A small church here is planning a big thank-you to police officers, firefighters and members of the military at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The public is invited to attend services at North Central Baptist Church that will honor members of the Roy Police Department and Roy Fire Department, who will each receive certificates of appreciation from the congregation.
The services also will recognize the ongoing efforts of the members of the military.
"We are calling it Hero Day because we want to honor the real heroes of our country," said Pastor Jason Harris.
The day also has been designated as time when church leaders are hoping to top previous attendance and get at least 100 people in the church.
"It's our big day in attendance," Harris said. "We're inviting people that have been there before and people that have never been as we honor our heroes."
The church at 5800 S. 1900 West may also have a fire truck at the one-hour service.
Harris planted the church a year and three months ago and has worked to invite the community to attend and become part of the growing congregation.
In that time, he said he has seen people turn their lives to Christ.
