SALT LAKE CITY -- The president of Westminster College says he'll be retiring next summer after 40 years in higher education and nearly 10 years at the helm of the private liberal arts school in Salt Lake City.
Michael Bassis announced his departure plans Thursday at a board of trustees meeting in Park City.
Trustees say they will launch a national search for a president in hopes of having Bassis' replacement in place by summer 2012.
Board of Trustees President Bob Frankenburg says the college's reputation and quality have grown during Bassis' decade of leadership.
The school says it has seen a 44 percent increase in student enrollment and 19 new academic programs since 2002.
