Council candidate struck by car

OGDEN -- City council candidate Jennifer Neil suffered minor injuries when she was struck by a car Wednesday afternoon while campaigning.

The accident occurred around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of 25th Street and Lincoln Avenue.

Neil, 49, said she had the right of way and was heading west in a crosswalk when she was hit by a Nissan Rogue turning left onto Lincoln Avenue.

The driver apparently didn't see Neil in the crosswalk. Neil said she was thrown about 10 feet.

"I got a flying start to my campaign," she joked Thursday.

Neil had ligament injuries to her left knee. She was treated at McKay-Dee Hospital and released.

The driver, identified as Debra Bishop, 31, of Ogden, was cited for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Police Lt. Eric Young said.

Neil and Richard Hyer are running for the 2nd Ward seat on the council.
