OGDEN -- As part of the Weber Historical Society's Fall 2011 Lecture Series, Newell Bringhurst and Craig Foster will present "The FLDS and the Outside World" at 7 p.m. Monday.
Bringhurst, a retired history and political science professor from the College of the Sequoias in California, is the author and editor of numerous books and a scholar of the Latter-day Saints movement. Foster is a research specialist in the LDS Church's Family History Library.
They will discuss the so-called "fundamentalist Mormons'" ongoing support for plural marriage. Bringhurst and Foster's presentation will examine the 1953 raid on the Short Creek/Colorado City fundamentalists through the recent headlines involving fundamentalists in Texas.
The lecture, which is free, will be held in the Lindquist Alumni Center.
