Prep football: Tigers tip visiting Bears

OGDEN -- For the first time in many years, the Ogden Tigers are sitting atop the Region 11 standings with a glossy 2-0 record after knocking off the Bear River Bears 20-9 in region action Friday night.

"I thought that we might be 2-0 at this point in region play," Ogden coach Troy Kolan said. "We needed to make some adjustments at halftime after failing to execute on the offensive side of the ball (including giving up that safety). Once we made that transition in the blocking scheme, we played well in the second half."

Ogden quarterback Anthony Sattiewhite gave up the first points of the game as he was brought down in the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 lead for Bear River. Both teams struggled to move the ball offensively at all the rest of the half, although the Bears did come up short on a 31-yard field goal with six minutes left in the second quarter.

Coming out of the locker room, the Tigers forced a fumble on the first play from scrimmage and scored the first touchdown of the game on a 20-yard scamper from Josh Shackleford for the 7-2 lead. After forcing a punt from the Bears, Sattiewhite found a wide-open Shackleford from two yards out to push the lead to 14-2.

A quick response came from the visiting side as Dyllon Mercado hauled in a 22-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Tayton Rose to cut into the lead at 14-9. From there, Shackleford tacked on an electrifying 16-yard sweep around the left side for the final score of the night.

"I thought that we played well in the second half," Sattiewhite said after the game. "The defense played really well and we made some plays on offense. We have some momentum from the past two weeks that got us back into a winning mentality."

Shackleford finished with 20 carries for 97 yards and two touchdowns while catching the other touchdown from Sattiewhite in the win.
