Utah police investigate 4-year-old girl's death

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah police say a medical examiner has been asked to determine what caused the death of a 4-year-old Lehi girl.

Lehi Police Lt. Darren Paul says the child's 32-year-old mother called 911 for help about 8:40 a.m. Wednesday after she found her daughter was unconscious and had stopped breathing.

Police have not released the girl's name.

Paul says the mother told investigators her daughter had been ill for about a week. Paul says he has no details about the nature of the illness.

Paul says the young girl's body shows no obvious signs of trauma and that for now, the death has been classified as "unexplained."

The mother's brother, boyfriend and her older child were also living in the apartment.

An investigation is ongoing.
