Child porn collection 'one of the worst,' but Utah owner allowed to finish semester before prison

PROVO — A Utah man has been sentenced to nearly seven months in jail after pleading guilty to 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

John Levi Hoffman was sentenced Thursday.

Prosecutors say Hoffman had one of the worst collections of child porn investigators working the case had ever seen. The Utah Valley University student had originally faced 40 counts, but 20 were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea.

Judge David Mortensen scheduled his sentence to begin Dec. 29, after Hoffman’s school semester ends. He was also ordered to spend 36 months on probation after his release.
