Prep football: Mustangs master Lakers in Region 5 action

HYRUM -- A solid start melted away on Thursday, as the Bonneville Lakers fell 20-6 in Region 5 football action.

The Lakers fell to 0-2 in league play, 3-3 overall.

Mountain Crest is 2-0, 4-2 with its homecoming win.

The Lakers built a 6-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a pair of field goals by Carson Fackrell.

But the Mustangs defense didn't allow the Lakers to penetrate the end zone for touchdowns and became stronger as the game went on.

The Mountain Crest 'D' held the visit Lakers to 18 yards of total offense after halftime, and gobbled up a couple of fumbles to thwart Bonneville's chances.

Faimafili Laulu-Pututau caught two touchdown passes, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble. Two of the Mustangs' best scoring plays came on halfback passes.

Mountain Crest starting quarterback Eddy Hall left the game at the end of the third quarter with hip flexor injury. Jamison Webb played the rest of the game at quarterback for the Mustangs.

The rest of Region 5 is in action tonight.
