OGDEN -- With a clean sweep of the trophies, the Davis High girls tennis team captured the Region 1 tournament title in style.
But while the Darts faced challenges in Monday's semifinals at Ogden High School and Mount Ogden Park, the experience Davis squad wrapped up the action with the finals sweep at Mount Ogden's courts.
Davis' Alexis Turley repeated as No. 1 singles champion, dispatching Fremont's Loni Karras, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 2 singles, the Darts' Brianna Turley swept Northridge's Breanna Graff, 6-0, 6-0, whil the Darts' Emi Facer topped Fremont's DustyLee Kimber in the No. 3 singles championship.
The No. 1 doubles title was a repeat as well, as the Darts Lizzy Bell and Kira Sparks topped Northridge's Madison Brooks and Courtney Tietgen, 6-4, 6-1, for the trophy.
At No. 2 doubles, Davis's duo of Kenzie Nuttall and Kendall Sargent beat Fremont's Kelsey Heileson and Kaylee England to win 6-0, 6-1.
The Darts finished the region season with 30 points, followed by Fremont (18), Northridge (17) and Layton (8).
Third-place finishes went to Layton's Haylee Johnson (No. 1 singles) and Chloe Johnson (No. 2 singles), Northridge's Alexis Williams (No. 3 singles, Weber's Nicole Binks and Mckayla Harrison (No. 1 doubles), and Layton's Megan Benson and Breanna Taylor (No. 2 doubles.
The state 5-A tournament is set for Oct. 6 and 8 at Salt Lake City's Liberty Park. The top four region finishers will be in action.
