FRUIT HEIGHTS -- The condition of a Fruit Heights shooting victim continues to improve. Most recently, the 15-year-old male has been able to eat on his own.
"Each triumphant step forward has been a miracle," the victim's family stated Wednesday in a Davis County Sheriff's Office news release.
The teen, whose name has not been released, accidentally shot himself while target practicing Aug. 27 at the Wasatch Shooter's Range above Fruit Heights. The boy went to sit down on a swing seat but fell. The gun discharged, striking him in the head, said Davis County sheriff's deputies.
The teen is making a remarkable recovery since the shooting. The family, wishing to remain anonymous, credits people at the range that evening "who reacted quickly and decisively to save his life" by calling 911, performing CPR and providing first-aid response.
The family also thanked the first responders from the sheriff's department, the EMTs and the surgeons, doctors and nurses who stabilized their son the night of the shooting.
