Odds 1 in 133,225: Infant, mom, grandmother share birthday

OGDEN -- Stetson Green will never forget his mom's birthday -- or his grandmother's.

That's because he now gets to share in the celebration. Not only was he born on his mother Candice Mahosky's birthday, but he has now become a cherished birthday present to his maternal grandmother, Sandi Haynes.

"I'm so excited," said Haynes, 56. "It's pretty amazing. What a riot. Candice was actually born early, and there's a pretty funny story about that."

Haynes said her son, Greg, who has since died, was due to be born around the time of her husband Darrell's birthday, but ended up being eight days late.

"When I was pregnant with Candice, I said, 'Hey, wouldn't that be cool if the baby was born on my birthday?' " Haynes said. "But Darrell said, 'You can't do that because you didn't have Greg on my birthday.' When I woke up in labor on my birthday, he said, 'That's not even fair, Sandi.' It's been a big joke in the family."

When Mahosky, 29, learned her due date was close to her and her mother's birthday, Darrell once again expressed the unfairness of it all.

Then it happened.

"I went into labor at 3 in the morning," Mahosky said. "I wasn't due until Oct. 7 and had even planned to have a C-section that day. It was a total surprise."

Stetson was born Thursday, Sept. 29, weighing in at 7 pounds, one-half ounce, with his father, Blair Green, there to share in the excitement.

"When I was a little girl, I didn't really even realize it was my mom's birthday because, at that age, it was just all about me," Mahosky said. "Now it's his turn and it's going to be all about him, and I'm OK with that."

According to parentdish.com, the odds of giving birth on your birthday are 1 in 365. Those odds increase dramatically to 1 in 133,225 when factoring in another generation.

Haynes said she couldn't be more thrilled about sharing her birthday with another family member, and Darrell is just as happy about it, too.

"His comments were all in good fun. It just became a family joke," she said. "We are very excited, and I am so excited to share my birthday with him (Stetson). I will definitely spoil the heck out of him."

Stetson also has a brother, Jagger, 3, and a sister, Riley, 9.

Mahosky said of Stetson: "It will be easy for him and for all of us to remember all three birthdays."
