Suspect escapes in high-speed chase from West Point to Riverdale

WEST POINT -- Police are looking for a suspect they chased across two counties.

A Davis County sheriff's deputy tried to pull over the male suspect, who was not immediately identified, for an expired registration near 2000 West and 470 North in West Point. But the suspect took off toward Clinton, said Davis County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Harper.

Police chased him around Clinton for about 15 minutes. At one point in the pursuit, law enforcement believe, the suspect tried to ram a Clinton police officer's car with his own, Harper said. The officer avoided being struck.

He eventually got on northbound Interstate 15. Police let him go near the Riverdale Road exit because they had identified him and he was going fast enough to pose a danger to the public if officers kept chasing him, Harper said.

As of 9 p.m., Weber and Morgan county law enforcement were still actively looking for the suspect, Harper said.
