Gov. Herbert’s mother dies at age 82

SALT LAKE CITY — Carol Boley Herbert, the mother of Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, died early Saturday morning at 82.

In a statement, the governor described his mother as “a talented and spiritual person” who exhibited “a strong, quiet faith.”

He says she also was a “happy, positive” person who loved life, but was looking forward to reuniting with his dad and other family members.

The governor’s father, Duane Barlow Herbert, died Jan. 11, 2010, at age 80 after a lengthy bout with cancer.

The governor’s statement did not mention the cause of his mother’s death. Funeral arrangements are pending.
