SOUTH OGDEN -- The Weber-Morgan Health Department is investigating an incident in which a group of about 20 people became ill after eating food from a South Ogden restaurant last week.
The restaurant has been identified as the Hug-Hes Cafe, 4387 Harrison Blvd., said Lori Buttars, a health department spokeswoman.
The health department began investigating Friday after receiving reports from members of the group who became ill and suffered gastrointestinal symptoms, Buttars said.
Health inspectors visited the restaurant Friday and say it seems to be an isolated incident and everything at the eatery appeared to be in order, Buttars said.
More testing will also be done at the restaurant, which remains in operation.
"There is nothing at the restaurant that would lead it to be closed," Buttars said.
A drug company representative took pasta, sandwiches and cookies from Hug-Hes to employees of a South Ogden medical clinic on Tuesday, said Blake Hawkins, the owner of the restaurant.
"It's our most popular items, and for this to happen is really weird," Hawkins said. "It had been cooked properly and served properly. I'm anxious to get test results back to see what the deal is."
Hawkins said he has discussed the incident with the drug representative and employees at the clinic he declined to identify.
Tests of stool and blood samples from some of those who became sick have not been completed to determine the cause of the illness, Buttars said.
Anyone who became ill after eating at Hug-Hes should contact a physician and be prepared to submit stool samples, she said.
