(UNEDITED) Some current presidential candidates claim that their success as businessmen makes them better qualified to be president. Economic problems have never been because of the lack of businessmen in any administration. Government cannot be run according to business principles. Business and politics don't mix without politicizing and corrupting the free market. Such mergers are the essence of fascism/socialism. When socialist economies inevitably become stagnant, socialists incorrectly blame free-market capitalism.
For centuries, economists have noted the remarkable genius of free markets to regulate themselves without government interference to the mutual enrichment of the rich, middle class, and poor. Private enterprise is the best welfare program possible for the poor. Government welfare is the worst. History has proven: "The government that governs best is the government that governs least".
A free market has a way of serving the economic interest of individuals and society simultaneously. Whether a businessperson participates in a transaction with honorable or selfish motives, the results still enhances the over-all public good automatically. All motives are channeled to the benefit of individuals and society. Both parties have a profit motive, but the free exchange is a mutual cooperative agreement. Both do the right thing: serve society. Natural competitive market forces set genuine (not government arbitrary and artificially mandated) wages and prices appropriately to their natural balance.
The reverse is true with government regulated economies. Government has no mechanism for converting selfishness into public good. Control of the economy should never be turned over to ambitious politicians, who are free to unleash their vices, and often unpatriotic selfish motives harmful to the nation's economy and national interests. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has, reportedly, outsourced 82 percent of America's industries to China and elsewhere.
Woodrow Wilson's collusion with Wall Street bankers and corporate fascists was behind the creation of the unconstitutional Federal Reserve System, which has virtually controlled America's entire economy ever since. The results have been ever-increasing political corruption and control of the free market by its enemies, and our current national bankruptcy.
