Martha Stewart releases new holiday crafts book

The empress of haute homemade is out with a new book, "Martha Stewart's Handmade Holiday Crafts."

The book contains 225 projects covering a year's worth of observances. Among them are decorations, gifts, party favors and other delights, from embossed Easter eggs to knitted cat toys for your feline valentine -- all with that tasteful Martha Stewart touch.

Basic techniques are included, right down to tying a simple and elegant bow on a package.

"Martha Stewart's Handmade Holiday Crafts" comes out today from Potter Craft. It's priced at $24.99 in hardcover.

New wood stove keeps fire burning longer, efficiently

When you burn wood, you rarely have much control over the flames.

But a wood stove from Belgian manufacturer Efel is changing that.

The Efel S33 is equipped with a patented woodbox combustion technology that preheats the combustion air and delivers it slowly and evenly over the fire. As a result, the fire burns longer and more efficiently with less emissions, and the glass stays clear.

An optional remote control lets you adjust the air supply and the intensity of the flames.

The S33 is one of four Efel models that will be available starting this fall. Prices range from $2,200 to $3,000.

A $500 discount is being offered for orders confirmed before the stoves arrive, probably in mid-October.

Light colors, natural light open up cramped kitchen

Make a small kitchen feel open and airy by using a light-color palette and plenty of natural light, recommend the folks at Home and Garden Television.

Light-wood cabinetry and a large window prevent a small, apartment-style kitchen from feeling cramped.

In an extra-tiny kitchen, downsizing is the best way to go.

A pint-sized stove, range hood, microwave and kitchen table are in proportion and take up less space.
