SALT LAKE CITY -- Authorities say a Salt Lake County dentist must pay $165,000 or face prison and more charges for evading taxes.
Fifty-nine-year-old Benjamin Lee Gilstrap has been found guilty of one count of racketeering and two counts of tax evasion and attempted tax evasion.
The Utah Attorney General's Office says the South Jordan man had an office in Sandy and didn't pay taxes during a five-year period from 2003 to 2007 while he earned nearly $1.5 million.
In a statement Tuesday, Attorney General Mark Shurtleff says Gilstrap refused to remedy the case out of court.
A judge in September suspended Gilstrap's sentence of up to 5 years in prison but ordered him to pay restitution, spend 50 days on home confinement, serve 350 hours of community service and six years of probation.
