PAYSON -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of its future temple in Payson.
The ceremony for the Payson temple is set for Saturday and is open to the public. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m.
Senior church elder Dallin H. Oaks of the faith's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the festivities.
The Payson temple will be 15th temple operating or planned in Utah.
Church officials say the temple will serve about 78,000 church members living in the area between Spanish Fork and Nephi.
Temples are considered the most sacred of church buildings and are used for marriages, proxy baptisms and other ceremonies.
