Stewart Elementary walkers earn award

CENTERVILLE -- Stewart Elementary School has been named the first runner-up in the Student Neighborhood Access Program's 2011 "Walk More in Four" statewide competition.

Stewart Elementary, which had the state's second-highest percentage of students walking and biking to school during September, won $250 for the school's safety committee. Stewart Elementary had more than 30 percent of its student body walking and biking regularly to school during September, more than two times more than the U.S. average.

The annual UDOT SNAP "Walk More in Four" challenge encourages Utah students to walk or bike to school at least three days each week during the four weeks in September.
