SALT LAKE CITY -- A 53-year-old man who police say started two fires in two days near downtown Salt Lake City has been sentenced to a year in jail.
Wilbert Edward Fike Jr. was sentenced last week in 3rd District Court. He will get credit for 72 days already served.
Fike was arrested in July and charged with misdemeanor reckless burning for setting fire to brush near City Creek and Canyon Road.
He turned himself in to police and admitted to trying to start a fire around the same area the day before.
Court records show Fike was connected to at least four other fires within the past five years.
Fike told officials he started the fires hoping to return to jail.
