LOGAN -- A Providence man was still hospitalized in extremely critical condition Friday after a head-on collision Thursday evening.
Richard Nicholas, 63, of Tremonton, was traveling north through Logan Canyon on U.S. 89 on Thursday. At 4:50 p.m., his red Ford truck, which was pulling a horse trailer, crossed the center line at Mile Marker 477. The truck collided head-on with a Toyota Solara that was traveling south, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.
The driver of the Solara, 58-year-old John Cary, of Providence, was flown to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden in extremely critical condition.
His 55-year-old wife, Gloria, and 12-year-old granddaughter were also in the car and were taken in an ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Gloria Cary was later flown to McKay-Dee Hospital.
Nicholas was also taken to Logan Regional Hospital in stable condition.
UHP investigators are trying to determine if Nicholas fell asleep at the wheel or if he had a medical condition that caused him to black out.
Everyone in the Solara was wearing seatbelts; Nicholas was not, UHP reported.
