VERNAL -- A defense attorney for a Duchesne County man accused of fatally stabbing his wife and then attempting suicide wants his client's competency evaluated before a judge decides if he'll stand trial for murder.
Prosecutors on Thursday said they don't object to an evaluation for Charles Edward Dodd.
Court records show another hearing in the 8th District Court case is set for Nov. 10.
Deputies say 82-year-old Mary Ratliff was found dead in her home Aug. 13 from apparent stab wounds after a friend received a package from Dodd containing a suicide note and $7,000 for burial expenses.
Officers also found the 75-year-old Dodd unconscious with stab wounds to his chest.
Dodd's lawyer said the couple suffered from major health problems and financial stress.
Dodd faces life in prison if convicted.
