HOOPER -- City engineer Tracy Allen briefed the city council about the possibility of applying for a Community Development Block Grant.
This is a federally funded grant offered to low- and moderate-income areas for public works projects.
Weber County received $1.1 million this year and $2.1 million in 2010.
According to Allen, Hooper has received two grants in the past, one for $90,000 for half the cost of the new senior center attached to the city building, and one for $550,000 to assist property owners with the hook-up fee to the sewer system.
To start the grant process, a public hearing was held at the last council meeting to get public input.
There were no comments from the public and Allen said there have been no identified projects in Hooper, but that the council needs to decide if it wants to make an application because of the aggressive competition for these grants.
