Name Game: Live your life like a Ute with a new book from U alum

A few weeks ago, we highlighted a group of BYU sports fans who had produced a children's book based on a miracle finish to a football win over Utah.

Now it's the Utes' turn.

U of U alum Patrick Sheltra recently released a book, "100 Things Utes Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die."

The book claims to be written for the serious fan, but all sports fans should enjoy the anecdotes and notes and quotes from past and present players and coaches.

Even one of my relatives, Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Wilson, is featured.

The book, produced by Triumph Books, is available in local book stores.

Oh so close

The chase for a spot in the hugely popular National Finals Rodeo just ended, with several Utahns earning spots.

Like Ogden's Jody Sheffield, who qualified eighth in barrel racing.

And bull riders Wes Silcox and Steve Woolsey.

Bareback rider Kaycee Field qualified first in his specialty, while former Top of Utah standout football player Olin Hannum qualified 10th in steer wrestling.

His brother, Jake Hannum, ended up 14th in the 2011 standings in all-around, but did not finish in the top 15 in any event.

Then there's saddle bronc rider Jake Wright.

The Milford cowboy's brothers -- that's Cody and Jesse -- earned spots in the NFR, set for December in Las Vegas, but Jake was edged out by a mere $85.

Fellow Utah saddle bronc standout Rusty Allen also came close but finished 17th.
