Prep football: Lakers let chance slip away

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Turnovers crippled the Lakers at Thomas Budge Field on Friday night as the Sky View Bobcats escaped with a 21-17 win dropping Bonneville to 1-4 in Region 5 action.

Bonneville lost the ball five times and Sky View quarterback Nicholas Carver made them pay with 231 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-29 passing.

"You can't turn the ball over five times against anybody," Bonneville coach Randy Johnson said. "It gives them the short field and when you give a team that many opportunities they're going to score."

Bonneville QB Morgan Unga struggled throwing the ball, completing 7-of-24 with a pair of interceptions but totaled 148 yards through the air and added another 43 on the ground.

The Lakers got on the board late in the first quarter as junior back Brock Kap broke through the line from a yard out.

Kap carried the ball just six times and netted 16 yards but scored again at the end of the third quarter to time the game at 14.

Colbie Bedford logged 105 yards on six carries for the Lakers including a 61-yard romp that set up Bonneville's first score.

Despite 10 penalties totaling 100 yards, Sky View's explosive air attack overpowered the helpless Bonneville secondary and among Carver's many targets junior receiver Mitchell Larson hauled in seven catches for 70 yards including a 25-yard TD reception to end the first half.

Senior back Alex Watts chipped in 97 yards for the Bobcats.

The Lakers will host Murray for their season finale on Wednesday.

* LOGAN 28, BOX ELDER 14: At Logan, the Bees gave the host Grizzlies all they could handle but still fell to the undefeated league leaders.

D.J. Nelson tossed a trio of touchdown passes on the night and ran for another.

Box Elder's C.J. Brown scored on a 17-yard TD scamper to cut the lead to 14-7 at halftime. In the late-going, the Bees' Britton Gunter and Dallis Stewart hooked up on a scoring pass.

Region 6

* CLEARFIELD 32, CYPRUS 20: At Clearfield, the Falcons buckled down for a wire-to-wire region victory, their first of the season.

Logan Rusch scored on runs of 33 and 43 yards, added a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to close out the Pirates.

Clearfield (1-4 league, 2-7 overall) also got a touchdown connection from quarterback Dakota Balthrop to Connor Parry and two Stockton Larsen field goals.

* BOUNTIFUL 44, WOODS CROSS 22: At Bountiful, the Braves got four touchdown rushes from Teau Satuala, and quarterback Cam Zollinger added two scores through the air for a prolific attack.

Tanner Redding was the recipient of two TD passes, while Luke Larsen's first-quarter grab opened the scoring for both teams.

Sean Barton bulled through the Braves on three short red zone runs for three scores, and Skyler Farnes passed for a pair of touchdowns.

Region 1

* SYRACUSE 56, WEBER 21: At Syracuse, Trevor Davis accounted for two passing scores and one on the ground for the Titans, who took an early 21-0 lead and never relented.

The win vaults the Titans into fourth place in the league standings. Mason Woodward had a trio of rushing TDs for Syracuse, which nonetheless spread out the scoring among six players.

Austin Tesch, Dallon Green and Colton Wayment scored touchdowns for Weber.
