The writer of the Sept. 22 letter, "Americans won't tolerate a Mormon president," is likely a supporter of the A.C.L.U. as well as a supporter of Al Gore, the E.P.A.; and he probably hates the idea of capitalism.
Religion has nothing to do with a candidate's qualifications to run for president of the U.S. The 1962 election of John F. Kennedy was iffy because of his faith. News flash, others that have been elected since have all been members of various denominations.
They were elected because they had the foresight of hopefully leading this great country in the right direction. Some won, others lost.
The letter writer should look around him. The current "clown leader" has destroyed everything others in the past worked hard to achieve.
If he fears a person with religious convictions other than his own, he has the right to leave this great country for other alternatives.
