SPANISH FORK -- Spanish Fork police say a 6-year-old boy whose heart stopped beating during a gym class is now expected to make a full recovery.
Officers said on Monday they credit an automated external defibrillator device in one of the police cars with reviving Logan Powell's heart after the emergency Thursday. The devices use an electric shock to help restore the heart's natural rhythm.
Police say Spanish Fork Ambulance Captain Don Thomas had recommended several years ago that the department purchase AEDs for patrol cars. A spokesman says donations have helped equip all the department's patrol cars with the devices.
Powell had collapsed at Spanish Fork Elementary School when another child noticed him and told an adult.
