State transfers land to Farmington

FARMINGTON -- A key hurdle allowing the state to transfer portions of Park Lane to the city has been cleared.

In a recent meeting, the city council voted unanimously to approve a cooperative agreement with the Utah Department of Transportation that will allow the city to take ownership of approximately 0.52 miles of State Road 223, or Park Lane.

The agreement is subject to a final vote in November by the State Tax Commission.

Negotiations for the land transfer have been ongoing for some time, and officials had initially hoped to complete the transfer in December 2010.

The state needed to complete the acquisition of some parts of the road, complete a new signal light and complete a study of which portions would be transferred, as well as possible realignments, before the move could be finalized.

As part of the transfer, the city will be responsible for snow removal for the structure over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and also assumes responsibility for all other operations and maintenance of the road.
