Prep volleyball: Bears fall in finale, but state tourney up next

TOOELE -- Da Bears dropped their Region 11 finale Thursday to Tooele 25-22, 25-27, 25-22, 23-25, 16-14, but Bear River will enter next week's state 3-A volleyball tournament as a No. 3 seed.

Aubryelle Rhodes had 14 kills and eight digs; Morgan Summers had 10 kills, one solo block, seven digs, two aces and 13 service points; freshman Alyssa Park had nine kills, one dig, three aces and five service points; setter Monica Olsen had 29 assists, seven digs, one ace and four service points; and libero Kassi Fronk had 30 digs, two aces and 10 service points for Bear River (11-17 overall, 6-6 league).

Region 17

* LAYTON CHRISTIAN DEF. MOUNT VERNON 25-1, 25-4, 25-1: At Murray, the Eagles dominated the Patriots in a road sweep.

Layton Christian (18-10, 9-2) is the league's No. 2 seed for next week's 1-A tournament.

Non-league

* MORGAN DEF. LONE PEAK 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 27-25: At Morgan, the Trojans' Bailey Farris had 28 kills, seven solo blocks, eight digs and two aces for undefeated Region 11 champion Morgan (12-0), which was playing its third match in three days.

Cassidee Lish had eight kills and nine digs; Mckenzie Schenk had six kills, three solo blocks and three block assists; Katie Peterson had three kills; Kristi Rhead had two kills, three block assists and 10 digs; setter Ashlee Gallen had 41 assists, 10 digs, three aces and 13 service points; Amanda Porter had seven digs and four service points; and libero Jaesee Dye had three digs and seven service points for defending state 3-A champion Morgan (22-5).

The defending 5-A champion Knights are 14-6.
