WEST POINT -- The planning commission asked that the city code be changed regarding when a public hearing is appropriate for conditional-use permits.
Planning commissioners believe the size of some projects and impact to neighbors warrant a public hearing along with proper notice to the surrounding property owners.
Conditional-use permits where public hearings are recommended are for commercial uses and commercial pad approval.
The cost for a conditional-use permit with a public hearing is $150, and those that do not require a hearing are $50.
The need for updated rules regarding public hearings and public notice came about with the 7-Eleven project on 2000 West and 300 North. No public hearing was held because the planning commission followed the city code.
