Box Elder County Commissioner Tingey was offended by my comment, "Many have been sworn into public office to uphold and defend the Constitution, but once in position of power, they choose to ignore this divinely inspired document." It is his choice to choose to be offended, just as it is my choice to express my opinion. Freedom of speech is a right in our Constitution.
The greater offense is having our fellow American citizens lose their right to a secret ballot by taking away local level precinct polling locations. Americans have been going to the private polling locations for decades, and now they are saying that they are too expensive and not convenient. Our military men and women have fought and died so that we could have this precious right, and now there is a force that is spreading across our country to take it away.
Corinne city is not a remote location and people do not have to travel several hours. The majority of the citizens are in walking distance to the polling location.
Voting by mail for Corinne is $1,137. Corinne, to handle its own elections with the voting machine is $1,344. That is broken down to $894 for the voting machine and $150 each for three poll workers, which I though were volunteers. Who knew? I didn't. I contacted a local printing company, and for 350 ballots for Corinne it would be $25. It's inexpensive, if you ask me, and the bonus is the citizens are able to audit the paper ballots as opposed to the machines.
Let's elect representatives who believe in protecting our local level precinct voting locations, along with the paper ballot. I believe in the paper ballot. When I was running to become a state delegate, I felt I was wrongly eliminated and petitioned the chairman to see the ballots. At first he resisted, but my husband persisted. The ballots were brought forth and the truth was revealed that I had indeed, been wrongfully eliminated.
