OGDEN -- If you've always wanted to build your own home, you might want to stop by the Standard-Examiner's Fall Home Show and Spa Expo.

This year, experts from Lowe's Home Improvement will be on hand to show you exactly what you need to get started, whether it's some of the basics when building a home from the ground up or just making a few simple repairs.

Mandy Masters, assistant store manager for Zone 3 at Lowe's, said several demonstrations will be given during the two-day event to teach people how to frame and drywall a home as well as how to install wood and tile flooring.

In addition, specialists will show you how to correctly patch up a hole in the wall, whether it's from a nail or a few teenagers who got a bit too rowdy.

"We want to show our customers and contractors just how easy it is to do many of the jobs when it comes to building a home," Masters said. "We will be framing a portion of a wall just like you would in a home, and we'll add a window and door. We'll also be doing siding on the outside."

Masters said experts will also be demonstrating the correct way to prime and paint a wall.

Other demonstrations will focus on winterizing the home.

The store will have the latest in snow blowers on hand, too, with specialists talking about the best options for each individual home.

"We'll also have a kids clinic on Saturday, where kids can come in and build something from start to finish," Masters said. "This year's theme will be baseball."

The store also will be showing off the latest in Whirlpool appliances and will be giving away raffle prizes that include two types of Porter Cable Drill sets.

The show will be held Oct. 28 and 29 at the Weber County Fairgrounds.
